Hi.

I will probably raise this as a support ticket but I wanted to see if anyone here has had the same problem.

Since my simulator PC upgraded itself to the Windows 10 May 2019 release (1903) I've been having problems with the G1000 Student Simulator Pro. This runs on a separate machine to the Prepar3d instance and connects via the Network Module. This other machine has *not* yet upgraded to 1903.

Fairly often when I start the G1000 after P3D has been started (or if I start P3D after the G1000, it happens either way), the G1000 reports that P3D is disconnected. Sometimes it connects but then quickly says it's disconnected and is trying to reconnect. Sometimes it connects and works for a while, then does the same thing. If I try to make it reconnect, it times out every time. Once this has happened, restarting the G1000 software (and restarting the PC it runs on) does not fix the problem.

If I shut down and restart P3D, this *may* resolve the problem. But it may not. Sometimes I have to restart the P3D PC completely.

This problem is random, but frequent. It's making the G1000 all but unusable.

Anyone seen similar? It's obviously related to the network module running on the P3D computer - but I don't see how a module that's loaded in-process with Prepar3d itself could crash without bringing down the whole simulator.

Just to add to this... it's all very strange! I upgraded the machine the G1000 runs on to 1903 to see what happened, and it just stopped working altogether. Same problem, just all the time now. So I reverted *both* machines to the November 2018 update instead - which was working fine before - and I *still* have the problem.

Uninstalled and re-installed the G1000 - still not working. Re-installed the network module - still not working.

So then I downgraded P3D on the host machine to 4.4 from 4.5 - now the G1000 works if you run it locally, although it crashes a lot (it always has), but it still won't work over the network. Same symptoms.

I'm mystified - I've effectively taken it back to a configuration which used to work fine, and it's still broken.

hello...

this is indeed very interesting, we have not seen issues like that with  1903 yet. i would highly recommend you open a ticket so we can take a good look at it and see what  the problem is!

Hi Tobias.

I will, I'm just doing all the diagnostics I can to give you the best idea of what's going on. BTW, I'm a developer myself.

It's not just happening on 1903, either - although it didn't start until I upgraded. I reverted both machines to 1809, and it's still happening.  However, I also upgraded the sim to 4.5 at the same time. So I'm downgrading to 4.4 and running a series of tests, then I'll run them against 4.5, and so on.

Also, it's worth noting that I'm now seeing different behaviour when I'm running the G1000 locally on the sim machine vs on the separate PC. Which at least points in the direction of a networking issue. I'll investigate that as well.

Support ticket will appear once I have all the info.

Just to update this... it's not a problem with Windows 10 1903. It's a problem with Prepar3d 4.5. I upgraded to 4.5 just after the PC updated to 1903, so that's why I thought it was related to the OS upgrade, but after downgrading the PC to the previous Windows build I was still having the issue. Once I downgraded Prepar3d back to 4.4, the G1000 started connecting fine.

Anyway... I guess I should still do a support ticket for the connection issue, so that you have all the information I've gathered from testing. I certainly want to go back to P3D 4.5 as soon as possible.
